Meta Description: Discover why traditional lintel repairs fail and how the patented LintleLOCK™ system corrects rotational lintel failure and torsional twisting permanently.
If you’re staring at a stair-step crack above your garage door, you’ve probably heard a dozen different "fixes." One guy says you need a whole new piece of steel. Another says he can just "tuckpoint it and it’ll be fine."
Here’s the cold, hard truth: most of those guys are looking at the symptoms, not the disease.
At LintelRepair.com, we don’t just patch cracks; we fix the physics. I’m Travis, the inventor of the LintleLOCK™ system, and I’ve spent years deconstructing why traditional repairs fail. If you want to know the real difference between a temporary band-aid and a permanent engineered solution, you’re in the right place.
Most people, and frankly, most contractors, think a lintel fails because the steel "got tired" or rusted out. While corrosion is real, the primary mechanism of failure for most garage door headers is Rotational Lintel Failure.
Traditional repairs treat the lintel like a sagging clothesline. They try to push it back up. But a lintel doesn't just move down; it twists. This is called torsional twisting. As the weight of the brick shifts, the steel angle iron begins to rotate outward.
Caution: If your contractor doesn't use the words "rotation" or "torsion," they probably don't understand why your bricks are actually moving.

Let’s look at the three most common traditional methods and why they usually result in a callback (and more money out of your pocket) within two to five years.
This is the "handyman special." They grind out the mortar, slap in some new stuff, and maybe paint the steel.
The Flaw: It does zero to address the structural rotation. The moment the temperature changes and the house breathes, that fresh mortar is going to pop right back out because the lintel is still twisting.
Some contractors will try to weld a second piece of angle iron to the existing one.
The Flaw: You’re just adding more weight to a failing system. Unless you anchor that steel into the structural framing of the house to stop the rotation, you’re just delaying the inevitable.
This involves tearing out several courses of brick, removing the old steel, and putting in a new, slightly heavier piece of angle iron.
The Flaw: While this is better than a patch, it’s incredibly invasive, expensive, and, here’s the kicker, it still doesn't fix the underlying cause. If the new lintel isn't locked against rotation, it will eventually start to twist just like the first one did. Plus, you’re left with a "picture frame" look where the new mortar never quite matches the old.
The LintleLOCK™ system was designed specifically to counter the physics of torsional twisting. It is the ONLY permanent, patented system that doesn't just support the weight, it reverses the rotation.

We use high-grade structural anchors that tie the steel lintel directly into the internal header of your garage. By creating a mechanical "lock," we force the lintel back into its original position and, more importantly, we keep it there.
Correction: We physically pull the rotated steel back to level.
Stabilization: We anchor the lintel into the structural framing, eliminating the possibility of future torsional movement.
Invisible Strength: Unlike bulky brackets (like the "Lintel Lift"), LintleLOCK™ is an internal, structural fix. Once we’re done and the mortar is matched, you won't even know it's there.
Tip: Because LintleLOCK™ is so accurate, we back our repairs for life. No "standard" masonry contractor is going to give you a lifetime warranty on a lintel patch.

Invasive? | High (Remove Bricks) | Low | Low (Internal) |
Warranty | 1-2 Years | 30 Days | Lifetime |
Visual Appeal | Noticeable | Messy | Seamless Match |
Addresses Torsion? | No | No | Yes |
Rotational failure is progressive. Every time the wind blows or the soil shifts in Dallas, that lintel twists a fraction of a millimeter more. Eventually, the bricks lose their "grip" on the wall and can actually fall.
Don't wait for a pile of bricks to land on your driveway. We offer a $99 Photo Brick Inspection where you send us clear photos of your damage, and our experts (usually me) will analyze the failure mechanism and provide a detailed report.
