If you are searching for brick column repair near me in Weatherford, TX, the column you are worried about is probably holding something up, and in Weatherford that usually means a porch roof, a carport, or a gate. A brick column is not decoration that happens to be tall. It is a stack of masonry carrying a load at the top and standing on a footing at the bottom, and when it starts to crack, lean, or shed brick, the question is never just how it looks. The question is what it is still carrying, and for how long.
Here is how a failing porch column gets read, how the repair-or-rebuild call gets made, and how a column gets rebuilt without losing the roof line it supports.
Vertical cracks running course after course. A crack that steps straight down through brick and joints is the column splitting under load or from a footing that has moved, not a surface blemish.
A lean you can see against the porch edge. Sight the column against a door frame or the roof fascia. A column drifting out of plumb is moving at the base or losing its core.
Loose or missing brick at the corners. Corners carry and show stress first. Brick you can wiggle by hand means the mortar and the core behind it have let go.
A gap opening where the column meets the beam. If the top of the column is separating from what it carries, the column has shortened, settled, or both.
Spalling and soft mortar near the ground. Sprinkler soak and soil piled against the base rot the bottom courses, and a column is only as good as the courses it stands on.
Weatherford sits on the same restless North Texas ground as the rest of the metroplex. Clay soil swells when it is wet and shrinks when it dries, and a shallow or undersized column footing rides that movement. Add a porch roof concentrating its load on one small stack of brick, water wicking up from the base, and a few decades of freeze and heat, and the column tells you the story in cracks. The footing question is the same one we walk through for a full pillar rebuild in our guide to brick column repair in Dallas: if the base moved, no surface repair on top of it will hold.

Repair fits when the core and footing are sound. If the column is plumb, the core is solid, and the damage is limited to spalled faces or eroded joints, the fix is to grind out the failed joints about 5/8 inch deep, replace the damaged brick, and repoint with mortar matched to the original, as we explain in mortar matching 101.
Rebuild fits when the stack itself has failed. A leaning column, a cracked-through core, or a footing that has dropped or heaved needs the column taken down and rebuilt. Repointing a leaning column is paint on a moving problem.
The load decides the sequence either way. A column carrying a roof is never just knocked apart. What it carries gets supported first, and the column work happens under that support.
Shore the load. Temporary supports take the porch or carport roof load, set so the beam stays at its existing height. The roof line is measured and marked before anything comes down.
Take the column down to sound footing. Brick come off course by course, saving any sound original units that can go back. The footing is checked for level, depth, and movement. A failed footing gets corrected, not buried under a new column.
Rebuild plumb, tied, and filled. The new column goes up plumb and level, course by course, with its core properly filled and tied as it rises, not a hollow shell of face brick. Where a veneer section meets the house wall, sound anchoring matters the same way it does in the wall work we cover in our guide to wall tie failure.
Match the brick and mortar. Replacement brick are matched for size, color, and texture, and the mortar is custom matched before it goes in the bag, so the rebuilt column reads as one column, not a patch.
Set the load back down and cap it right. The beam is lowered back onto the rebuilt column at the original line, and the top is finished with a cap that sheds water off the column instead of into it.
Do not lean ladders, gates, or stored weight against a cracked column, and keep vehicle bumpers away from carport columns that are already loose. Take clear photos from all four sides, plus one shot sighting down the porch line so the lean shows. Those photos are exactly what a mason needs to give you a straight first read. Our Weatherford brick repair page covers the column, porch, and wall work we do in Parker County.
